Happy Belated Birthday Giveaway

birthdayTuesday this past week was my birthday, and I don’t like to mention birthdays out of a wish they’d go away, but since the most wonderful birthday present every showed up in my e-inbox as I was blearily getting everyone ready for school, I thought I’d share my excitement at the news and pass it around in the form of my own birthday giveaway.

Tj, of The Perfect Nose, hosts monthly giveaways, a catalogue of which can be found here.  For the month of November she was offering a Knipmode winter supplement on one of my favourite items of clothing: coats. Now, never having ever beheld a Knipmode anything in the flesh, and dearly loving all things wintery and  coat-ish, I threw my hat into the draw.  And won!  What a perfect birthday present to wake up to on Tuesday!  Woo hoo!  I’ve never won anything in a giveaway before, so this was doubly exciting!

I’d also like to say thank you to the lovely and inspiring Carolyn, Zoe and CherryPix for passing along the One Lovely Blog badge to me.  I’m honoured! Since this blog is mostly about me and my sewing life, I shan’t bore you with more trivia than you’ve already come to know about myself, but I most definitely will pass along my appreciation of a host of blogs that I read and enjoy.  Do you find it difficult to nominate blogs for awards?  I do.  How do I choose? So I’ll mention several that I’ve just started reading over the last few weeks, as I need to update my blog roll and you won’t find the links there as of today… yet!

Tulle & Tweed

Karin from Sew Here we Go Again

Kay the Sewing Lawyer

Anne from Petty Grievances

Mrs. Mole from Fit for a Queen

The Overflowing Stash

Mad for Mod – in German, but worth the translation effort!

And since it’s my birthday, I’d like to pass around the giveaway cheer and offer up a choice of the following lengths of fabric (because I cannot choose what to give away).

First, 1.4 metres (150 cm wide) of a poly-lycra knit.  I’m sorry I don’t really know the difference between ITY and a plain poly knit, but the edges of this do not curl, it’s got a medium weight and it’s stable.  The background is an espresso shade of brown. IMG_5264

Second, 1.25 metres (100 cm wide) length of lace.  It’s black, white and gold.IMG_5265IMG_5266

Last, 2.5 metres (115 wide) of silk chiffon, which would look really pretty made up as a floaty dress for spring or blouse, perhaps? IMG_5260

The Belated Birthday Giveaway rules are:
  1. Leave a comment telling me a) what book you’re reading now and b) what fabric you’d like.  If you’d like a chance at more than one, please state that!
  2. I am quite happy to ship internationally, so please include yourself, wherever you may sew!
  3. I’ll make the draw one week from today on Saturday, December 15th.

Thank you all for playing along, and spread the word!

  1. Oh happy birthday to you Tia Dia – you must be another Sagittarius? Wonderful. Hope you had more treats on your day plus things social and so forth.

I’m reading ‘Bring up the Bodies’ by Hilary Mantel. Love it. Read the first one, Wolf Hall’ and loved that too. Henry VIII tale – very interesting and well written. Fab. But please don’t include me in the giveaway though as I have piles of fabric I really should/must/will do something with before I buy/acquire more.

  2. Hi, I enjoy reading your blog especially because you are Canadian. Happy Birthday. I just finished reading State of Wonder by Ann Patchett. I loved it but it was difficult to get into the story at the start.
I’d love to win the silk or the knit.
Thanks for all you write and share.
    Dina from Ottawa

  3. Happy happy birthday!! 😀 I’m currently reading “The Name of the Wind” by Patrick Rothfuss, which I HIGHLY recommend… it’s an incredibly engaging, fantastic read that sucks you in right from page one. The silk is lovely, and I really like your inspiration dress as well… I think it would be fabulous in a dress like that 🙂

  4. A great big Happy Birthday to you. I’m currently reading “Jeeves and the Feudal Spirit”. I love Wodehouse, with over 100 books written I’ve got plenty more to read too. Could you please count me in for the fabric giveaway. I think they are all stunning fabrics. Thanks.

  5. I am reading The Serpent’s Tale. – I am flexible – I like all 3 fabrics so any of them would be fine. Thank you.

  6. Happy Birthday! Thanks for the nomination:-) I won’t post it all again though, since I already received the award- how lucky am I?
Don’t you find that the most difficult part of being given these awards is knowing who to pass them onto?

  7. OOH! I love the crazy daisies and, of course, the chiffon. I’m reading “Name of the Wind” by Patrick Rothfuss for about the 3rd time. If you like Tolkien or George R. R. Martin, I definitely think you will enjoy Rothfuss. Thanks for hosting a giveaway: it is great that you are celebrating your birthday by sharing the love!

  8. Wow, thanks for nominating me for a blog award! And a very happy birthday (belatedly). I have just finished a novel by David Lodge – Deaf Sentence. I’m also listening to Pure by Andrew Miller. I would love to tackle a little something lacy, if I’m lucky and the lace is still not spoken for.

  9. Really? Last Tuesday – the 4th- was your birthday? My birthday was the 4th too! I always lamented the fact I was born in December – can’t have swim party as a kid, but now as an adult I guess it doesn’t really matter. Congratulations on you blog win. I just finished a book last night (which isn’t worth mentioning) and plan on starting tonight, An Assembly Such as This by Pamela Aidan. Not that I haven’t read this series before (it is Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice as told from Fitzwilliam Darcy’s perspective) but during the holidays – or should I say holidaze! I need something comforting to read. And, I like the poly knit the best :-)!

    1. Oh, happy belated birthday to you, too! You are the 3rd person I’ve known whose birthday falls on December 4th! Said list includes one BIL and high school BF!

  10. Congratulations on your birthday, and magazine, and blog award! I’m re-re-re-reading Emma, by Jane Austin, and I’d love to get my sticky little paws on that lace! It’s gorgeous!

  11. Happy Birthday! What a great way to celebrate- with a giveaway. I am currently reading A Place of Quiet Rest by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. I think the knit fabric is pretty and a second choice would be the lace. Hope you were able to celebrate your birthday just the way YOU wanted to.

  12. Happy belated birthday and congrats on your wins! I’d love to throw my name in the hat for the floral silk chiffon, it’s gorgeous! Right now I’m reading the January reader’s digest that just came in the mail and a couple sewing books I picked up from the library.

  18. Hello, Tia. Happy belated Birthday, hope you enjoyed your day with your family!
I´m reading “The distant hours” by Kate Morton, it´s taking me months to finish, with all the sewing …Anyways; I fell in love with the lycra, if I´m lucky.
    Thank you!

  19. Hi Tia,
I love you blogs. Congrats on your birthday win and Happy Birthday to a fellow Sag….mine is Dec 15th. If I am blessed to win I’d love the knit. Thanks for your generosity. blessings!

Oh, I’m reading several….The Healer’s Manual (Ted Andrews); Broken Open (Elizabeth Lesser) and You Can Heal Your Life (Louise L. Hay).

  20. I’m reading Praying the Names of God: A Daily Guide by Ann Shipley and The Inner Voice of Love by Henri Nouwen. I’d love to win the lace because I am making a Mother of the Bride dress for my friend, Wynne, and I think that lace would be gorgeous on the bodice.

  21. Oh my, how sweet of you to share your birthday with us, by having a giveaway. I just love the lace and silk chiffon. Now, as to what book I’m reading well the list is long and it depends on my mood, and time of day. I’ve just recently come across a sewing book by Adele P. Margolis, “Make your own Dress Patterns”. It’s not dry or boring, nor too technical, at least not to me. I’m also reading “The evolution of Mara Dyer” by Michelle Hodkin. Second book in the series by this new author. Well written. I also just finished “The truth about style” by Stacy London. A fun and informative book. Those are just a few of the books I’m reading. I love books just as much as I love fabric and sewing and reading blogs. Happy Birthday!

  22. Hey Tia, Thank you for adding my blog fitforaqueen.wordpress.com
in your list! Congrats on winning the Knipmode winter supplement…love the jackets and hats! I’m reading Warmth of Other Suns right now and I like the chiffon fabric if my name is drawn.

  23. I’m currently reading Dragon’s Kin by Todd McCaffrey, it’s part of the Pern series. I’d love to be in to win the lace or the chiffon; both are lovely.
